Explicit Consent — Background Location
Version 2.0
I have read the Privacy Notice. I give my explicit consent for my device's location to be processed while the app is in the background or my phone's screen is off, for the following two purposes, and only for the feature I turn on:
1. "Stay visible when the screen is off": to keep appearing with my Instagram username and profile photo in the lists of app users near me (about 100 m) while my phone is in my pocket. 2. "Let me know when people are nearby": to send me a notification when app users are near me.
I understand that:
- Both features are entirely optional and are turned on and off separately in Settings; if I don't accept, I can still use the app's other features.
- While "Stay visible when the screen is off" is on, I appear in the lists of nearby users even if I don't open the app. My exact location, distance or a map is never shown to anyone; others only see a "very near" or "near" label. In invisible mode, or when I turn this feature off, nobody can see me in the background.
- My background location is kept in server memory for at most 30 minutes; it is not written to the database and no location history is kept. If no location update arrives, I drop off the list within 30 minutes.
- To limit battery use, location is not tracked continuously; it is updated about every 5 minutes or when I move noticeably. On iPhone, the system may update less often while I'm not moving.
- Notifications never include names, usernames or photos, only the number of people near me. People I've blocked are not counted. I receive at most one notification every 3 hours for the same area and at most 4 per day; no notifications are sent during quiet hours (default 01:00–09:00).
- On Android, a persistent system notification is shown while background location is running.
- I can withdraw this consent at any time in Settings → My consents; once withdrawn, both features are turned off, my background location is deleted immediately and tracking stops.
